First, I ask you to read two items regarding privilege.
First, a blog post by SF author John Scalzi: “Things I don’t have to think about today” It’s his musings on his own privilege.
Second an article called: Explaining privilege to a broke white person, because privilege is not about economics.
Next, make a list of some of your own privileges. It’s not about possessions or your physical location and social status, but about things that you normally don’t have to think about. Most of us have privilege of some form, even if we’re from a poor background, have health challenges, etc. I ask you to make a list of things you don’t have to think about that some diverse character in one of your stories might.
BTW: No fair reusing things from Mr. Scalzi’s list.
